Themen Deutsch 1 is a new German textbook for the Leaving Certificate course that takes a theme-based approach, a key requirement of the syllabus. It is aimed at Fifth Year (Ordinary and Higher Levels) and Sixth Year (Ordinary Level) students.nThe book is divided into 20 units, each based around a theme on the Leaving Certificate syllabus. nEach unit begins with vocabulary relevant to the theme and is accompanied by questions to be answered orally. nThis is followed by a picture-essay requiring an oral and written response. Literary and factual texts feature in each unit, which conclude with a letter in the Leaving Certificate format. Finally, ten useful sentences based on the theme are provided for students to memorise.Teachers will benefit by having ready-made subject plans and students will benefit from the structured approach to language learning.Themen Deutsch 2, to be published in 2010, is aimed at Higher Level students and will contain a theme-based summary of German grammar. nnnn
